Goals conceded ratio Randolph v Adrian
Be interested to see what it is. Not taking anything away from terrible defending but does seem like we have been conceding a lot more since Randolph became number 1. Of course Fontes arrival is also similar timing wise.

I think Adrian as keeper is fine - no worse than any of the keepers at the other clubs at our level except maybe Heaton at Burnley...If we were to throw money at anyone would suggest it be him (given he's 30...good for a keeper but not young) as he might be fairly priced.

Re: Goals conceded ratio Randolph v Adrian
Neither of them are good enough really and we should be looking to create some movement here.

If we are not going to get a ready made improvement on Adrian then we should transfer list Randolph and look at finding a new prospect to challenge the Spaniard in the near future.

To just stick with both for another season is not progress.

I'm not worrying. I'm saying, and I've said throughout, that I favour a shake-up of some sort in the position, just to change the dynamic somehow. I've said before I would take Ruddy.

Aren't you worrying about nothing then?

We won't know for a couple of months if we're sticking with Adrian and Randolph another season, and if we do flog one of them then solid cover for either of them isn't too hard to find (both of those are direct quotes from you on this thread).

>>> I'm glad you've changed your mind over this though.

From what you've said I haven't changed my mind (obviously people twist things on here, I'd only really trust direct quotes). I still think keepers are less important than almost any other role in the team. For the reason I just explained (that solid cover in the position isn't that hard to find and is generally cheaper than other roles).

Re: Goals conceded ratio Randolph v Adrian
It was pretty much that. I suggested we were gambling with that position having Jaaskelainen and signing Adrian (who was a complete unknown to everyone on here) as they were both free transfers and were seen as borderline reserve goalkeepers at their previous clubs.

You suggested there wasn't too much to worry about as a goalkeeper wasn't that important to the team.

I remember this well as it was one of those head scratching moments for me. I think the last line of defence is a pretty important part of the team, personally.

I'm glad you've changed your mind over this though. What I'd like to happen is we flog either one of them and buy someone like Bentley from Brentford, who is seen as a very promising keeper, and have both Bentley and the other one fight it out, with Bentley hopefully having the edge to take over.

Re: Goals conceded ratio Randolph v Adrian
I'd be interested to read what I wrote about the position in 2013. Obviously keepers tend to go for less money than almost any position, so technically they are probably considered less important than other roles. Or perhaps the thinking is that it's easier to find solid cover there.

As I've said before, I don't have a strong feeling about either Adrian or Randolph - they seem alright. I have a gut feeling that we could probably find better.

I remember when you said on here that the position of goalkeeper isn't that important to the team, V.

It after I suggested we were gambling with that position when we had Jaaskelainen and just signed Adrian on a free.

Funny that you've now changed your tune, isn't it?

Re: Goals conceded ratio Randolph v Adrian
So Adrian's been dropped, to being attempted to be sold in January, to being set for release on a free, to now being re-signed and being our first choice again. Bit of a weird six months.

If the decision is to just stick with Adrian and Randolph another season, I'm not sure what I feel about that. I think a change of some sort would have been a good idea. It just feels like a weak position.

in fairness to Randy, he never had the Fonte, Reid, Collins combo playing in front of him.

That has been the big difference.

3 clean sheets in a row. Think it shows what a difference he's made: might not be a top keeper but does more off his line which gives the defenders more confidence: well done Adrian!

Rather than read through all this, I can tell you that I looked at this a week ago and put it on another thread. Their goals per game this season are practically identical at 1.8, give or take 0.01.
Either way, conceding nearly two a game is garbage.

Adrian really inspired confidence when he made a mess of clearing the ball from that throw-in.

Alex I wouldn't be too unhappy with that especially if we sign an up and coming keeper like Pickford to battle it out for the jersey, then sell Randolph

A Hugh story today says that the club took a 12-month option to extend Adrian's contract beyond this Summer.

Re: Goals conceded ratio Randolph v Adrian
I didn't want him from the start, he'd never even played in the top flight and was probably only fancied because he available was on a free. But all I got told on here was, "Yeah but Phil Parkes recommended him."

Well his recommendation was fucking shit wasn't it?

Randolph is turning into a fucking liability. Terrible with anything that comes interesting the box off the floor. Used less and has cat is lots of points this year

It's time to bring Adrian back but in the Summer we need a top class keeper added to our list.

Re: Goals conceded ratio Randolph v Adrian
Shit player in a key position. Whatever could go wrong?

Adrian made mistakes trying too hard to cover for his struggling defenders. Randolph is just shit. Flaps, struggles with any cross. He's easily beaten at his near post. Balls just float into the net at a pedestrian pace with him nowhere to be seen.

Tonight you saw a shot from 30 + yards straight at him and he spilled it right to their player.

But just like Bilic refused to change Antonio at right back or Kouyate at right back or see obiang should start or that arbeloa, nordveit, tore, feghouli, zaza, calleri, feghouli or snodgrass are just not good enough and do little other than give the ball away and fail to defend. Its NO surprise we are top three for goals conceeded this season with Randolph and the circus in front of him each week.
